The Six Permanent Objects of Kiwanis International were approved by Kiwanis club delegates at the 1918 Convention in Providence, Rhode Island. Through the succeeding eighty years-plus, they have remained unchanged.

  • To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life.
  • To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
  • To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.
  • To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.
  • To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.
  • To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

MILITARY DEPLOYMENT TO OAK QUARRY GOLF CLUB

Nine members of the United States Military -- four Marines from MCLB Barstow and five Air Force Reservists from MARB Riverside -- recently successfully completed their mission at Oak Quarry Golf Club in Riverside, CA. They are accustomed to the heat they have encountered in the Middle East, but on this 100-degree day, the conditions were somewhat more pleasant. There was no body armor or bad guys firing at them. Their M-16's were substituted for Big Berthas and putters. And, they arrived in POVs (Privately Owned Vehicles) instead of Humvees or Armored Personnel Carriers.

Ontario Parkway Kiwanis was honored to welcome the servicemen to the 5th Annual OPK Charity Golf Tournament at beautiful Oak Quarry, where the staff provided great hospitality. Almost a hundred golfers participated in the charity event. Money raised benefits children through "The Magic of Reading" progam and Water for People, an international organization that brings water systems to villages and changes lives around the world.

At the dinner and awards ceremony, Kiwanis President Patti Cridland was overcome with emotion as she thanked those who risk their lives to preserve and protect our way of life. It has become a tradition at the OPK tournament to include a military presence. This year, the Servicemen were sponsored by TMAD and Taylor & Associates.

OPK received incredible support from Title Sponsor Swinerton Builders, as well as the other major sponsors, Briggs Electric, Foothill Self Storage, Frank R. Webb Architects, and Drake Systems Group, Inc. Many local businesses contributed thousands of dollars of gifts for door prizes. Tom Borba of Premiere Golf Solutions did another excellent job helping Kiwanis organize the tournament. After taking a deep breath and a little time off, Borba and OPK will begin planning for next year.

Not surprisingly, OPK has already received notes of gratitude from the Servicemen.

From SgtMaj Michael Berg: "As long as we have great Americans like you [Kiwanis], our military will
continue to do the things that we have to do to keep our country free. Thanks again for everything, it was a great day for all of us Marines."

It really goes the other way, guys. We can never express enough gratitude to you.
