 Serving Children Worldwide “Serving Children Worldwide” is the motto of the Kiwanis Club and its members internationally.
Kiwanis celebrate children and the voyage of discovery that the international organization provides them through its members leadership.

Kiwanis International presents “Serving Children Worldwide” with a charming storybook ship depicting a celebration of travelers across the ocean. The riders are dressed in costumes native to various countries where children are served by Kiwanis International. The ship is under the command of a gigantic bunny as it takes eager youngsters on a voyage of adventure and discovery. The colorful vessel rides acrest floral waves as its youthful crew, all members of Kiwanis related groups, while a mouse of a first mate, armed with his trusty map, provides navigation.
FLOWERING: The bunny at the prow of the float is created with white chrysanthemums, his hat features erianthus and blue statice. The sails are decorated with fine ground orange lentil and yellow strawflower, with patches of parsley flake and statice attached with onion seed stitches. The ship’s hull is made up of onion see, light and dark flax seed and gold clover. The lantern features blue statice glass and a frame of yellow statice. The ropes are created wrapped sisal and the rope ladder is light tan flax seed. The mouse is sesame and flax with a nose of pink carnation petals. He’s wearing a shirt of onion seed and rice powder, and is holding a statice and red bean map. The waves are created with gypsophila and iris, white roses, dendrobium orchids and gerbera with sprays of coco sticks.

One Day, One Heart, One Gift
The “One Day” for 2008 will be April 5th. The “One Heart” is your club working together to collect “One Gift”. On April 5th we will all come together and present that the gift to the organization of your choice, and then we will have a party to celebrate your passion.
I will be at the Habitat site this Saturday, April 5, between the hours of 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm. Please bring your collected items to me there. They will be weighed, measured and I hope not found wanting. I am looking forward to thanking each one of you.

Annual Division 15 Kiwanis Prayer Breakfast Hosted by Upland-Foothill Kiwanis Wednesday, May 6, 2009 The speaker will be Rev. Steve Doolittle who has pursued the study of traditional philosophy, world religions and emerging contemporary spirituality since 1968. A member of Astara’s staff since 1990, Steve organizes and leads tours to spiritually significant sites across the globe. His first book, From the Heart: Five-Minute Inspirations, was published in 2001.
Music will be provided by Mario Raven, accompanist for Upland High School award-winning chorale groups. It promises to be an inspirational morning.


DIVISION 15 ELECTIONS: 2009-2010 LT. GOVERNOR & LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT Congratulations Elvia Rivas and Patty Cridland JUNE DIVISION COUNCIL MEETING (DCM) & ANNUAL MEETING
At the Division 15 DCM to be held on June 16, 2009, 6:30 p.m. at the Rancho Cucamonga Carrows, 11669 Foothill Blvd., Rancho Cucamonga, CA, 91730 (note change in location), we plan to hold the Division Conference to elect a Lt. Governor and Lt. Governor-Elect for 2009-10. The current Lt. Governor-Elect, Elvia Rivas, shall be the sole candidate for the office of Lt. Governor. However, we need to elect her, as well as a new Lt. Governor-Elect. Each Club has 2 delegates (the current President and immediate-Past President). Please ensure that both of these people are at the Conference, OR have your Club elect alternates. It is important for all Clubs to attend – we need at least 8 Clubs to have a quorum. Sharron Varga shall be the Chairperson of the Conference. Please be prepared to offer nominations from the floor for the Office of Lt. Governor-Elect, and obtain the permission of such persons to nominate them. All Past Lt. Governors are encouraged to attend and traditionally do so!




CLE TRAINING For incoming presidents and new secretaries July 18th at the Cal-Nev-Ha district office 8360 Red Oak St., Suite 201, Rancho Cucamonga. Start time is 8:30 A.M. and should end by approximately 3:00 P.M. There is a cost for the facility and training materials. Morning snacks and lunch will be provided. The cost per club is $25. Long time Kiwanian Hal Jackson, president of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Pomona, will compete in the half marathon at the Long Beach Marathon on Sunday, October 11. At the age of 78 years, this is the first time he will participate in a marathon. The Kiwanis Club of Greater Pomona meets Wednesday at the Home Kitchen Café, 309 East Foothill Blvd. in Pomona at 7 in the morning. A half marathon is 13.1 miles. Hal Jackson plans to walk the distance just under 3 1/2 hours. He is competing for the Leukemia& Lymphoma Society in its endeavor to help cure blood cancers. He has been training since May with Team In Training (TNT) a training arm of the Society. Blood cancers include leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma. Jackson will walk in memory of his friend Willie ”Keys” Howard, his godson Duane’s father. Keys died from myeloma. He will also walk to honor Mildred Halstead and Thomas Moore members of the San Dimas Community Church, United Church of Christ where he attends. Mildred has been treated for lymphoma and has been cancer-free for over twenty-three years. Tom has recently been declared cancer-free after having suffered from multiple myeloma for over a year. Reverend Jackson an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ denomination retired from the State of California in 1994 as a prison chaplain, after serving almost twenty-one years at the Heman G. Stark Youth Correctional Facility in Chino. The institution houses young men from seventeen to twenty-five years of age. He later served as pastor of the Mentone Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Mentone. Hal Jackson plans to do 26.2 miles in the 2011 Los Angeles Marathon to celebrate his eightieth birthday in January of that year.

He graduated from Christian Associates Seminary in 1979 and ordained the same year. He has been honored to serve the community as Executive Director for the Ontario YMCA for 14 years. Come and be inspired as he writes music and plays guitar.
